Oslo-listed Scorpion Offshore says in its latest fleet contract update that the Offshore Intrepid was delivered to Scorpion from Keppel AmFELS in Brownsville, Texas, on Friday January 23 and that the unit was modified for its contract in the Arabian Gulf and mobilised to the Middle East.

The rig arrived in the Arabian Gulf and began its drilling contract on May 15, Scorpion said in a statement.

Scorpion also said that its Offshore Freedom was delivered to Scorpion from the Lamprell shipyard in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates on April 28.

That unit was then modified for its contract in the Arabian Gulf and left for its gig on June 3.

Scorpion also received a letter of intent (LOI) from Thanglong Joint Operating Company to extend the current contract for the Offshore Resolute.

This LOI is in direct continuation of the current programme offshore Vietnam and has a length of 6 months beginning early August.

"In summary, five of the company's jackups are currently operating and the sixth jackup should begin operations in the next week," Scorpion said.

The rigs have a total contract backlog of approximately $820m, an average contract coverage of just over two years for the first 6 rigs.

The company's last jackup under construction, the Offshore Mischief, is currently being marketed for sale.
